Washington Nationals Opening Day Festivities

Opening Day At Nats Park 2018

Shot With A Panasonic HC-X1

My favorite day of the year! Opening day! Well...HOME opening day...the Washington Nationals already played a few away games. The weather was perfect this year, so I headed down to Nats Park to get some footage of the mayhem that is an MLB home opener (above).

I walked around to each of the gates and the lines were LONG to get in. Some people were waiting at least 20 minutes, if not longer to get inside the stadium. Big games are always a crazy scene so get there early for the big ones and be ready to wait in line. The lines were STILL long after the game already started.

The options for pre-game entertainment have grown tremendously since the park first opened 10 years ago (oh my...that long?). Yards Park is a great park on the shore of the Anacostia River, the Bullpen beer garden is always the most popular, there are a few chain restaurants that were packed, some local bars and even an outdoor brewery called Bardo.

Because it was opening day, people wanted to get in early for the free t-shirt and for the pre-game festivities. However, as DC Crowds do, there were thousands of people "finishing their beers" outside the stadium well into the game.

Soo...there was also a game. The hot Nationals played the New York Mets, but couldn't take home the victory. However the 40,000 fans that skipped work for the game had a great time. If you need any info on the Nats the former editor of the DC Sports Nexus (me) has you covered.
