Sunday At Fountainhead Regional Park

Time Lapse At Fountainhead Park In Fairfax Station

Shot With A Panasonic HC-X1

The weather was perfect on Sunday, so I went out into the world and ended up at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia. This Fairfax County park is mostly known for boating options and trails, but also has a small cool boardwalk & fishing pier. I brought out the camera and decided to capture some time lapse video (above).

Surprisingly, I've never been fishing at this park before, and there aren't too many good spots on shore that I could see. The boardwalk is a cool place to just relax by the water, and just look out at the expansive Occoquan Reservoir.

Camera Stuff: Each of these time lapse shots were filmed in 4K at 24fps with a shutter speed of 1/48. That is why it has a more artistic / claymationy look rather than a smoother look. A CPL filter was not used but would have helped with the blue skies and the clouds.

On this day the water was filled with people on boats, kayaks, canoes and motor boats. Fisherman, recreational paddlers and people on romantic dates all set sail from the boat ramp. There is also a visitor center at the top of the hill where you can get more info, get a snack or rent a boat.

Fountainhead is a free park in Fairfax County and has a bunch of activities. However, it isn't as big and exciting as the nearby Burke Lake Park.
